Wilderness Voice How do You Know?
Before we come to Christ, our lives are dominated by desires that are fulfill within our own strength and abilities. Even as followers of Christ, much of our effort to do things for the Lord is really the resurgence of our desire to dominate and make things happen in our own strength. So how do we know whether or not we are serving God with pure motivations or a self serving motivation in disguise? One good way to check our motives when doing something for the Lord is to see how calm and patient we can remain when it does not go the way we want it to. If we believe we are acting out of love toward someone, but we become angry if the other person does not reciprocate, that indicates there is something beyond love motivating us. When something like that happens, we surrender again, saying, “Lord, here it is; I made a mess of it. I need your help.”
Romans 6:4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life
